Chennai: Kamal Haasan turns 72 today. His remarkable journey in Indian cinema has spanned generations and continues to inspire filmmakers and audiences alike. Never one to be confined by convention, he has consistently pushed creative boundaries, embraced bold cinematic experiments and worn many hats behind the camera, leaving an indelible imprint on Indian cinema.
His association with cinema began at the age of four when he made his debut as a child artiste in the Tamil film Kalathur Kannamma (1960), earning the President’s Gold Medal for his performance. He went on to establish himself as a leading actor in Tamil cinema before gaining recognition across Indian film industries. Over the decades, he has ventured into direction, screenwriting, production, playback singing and choreography, demonstrating a rare willingness to explore different facets of filmmaking.
Kamal Haasan’s daughter and actor Shruti Haasan, along with several prominent personalities from the film industry, took to social media to extend birthday wishes to the veteran actor.
In her birthday message, Shruti shared a heartfelt tribute to her father, describing his enduring love for cinema and his passion for storytelling. She recalled how he recommended a film during their conversation earlier in the day and enthusiastically explained what he loved about it. She also marvelled at how his curiosity and enthusiasm for cinema remained undiminished over the years, describing him as a rare talent whose creative spirit continued to shine.
Actor and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay also joined the film fraternity in extending birthday greetings to Kamal Haasan through social media.
He wished the veteran actor on his birthday and conveyed his best wishes for the years ahead, while acknowledging his dedication and contributions across various fields.
