Karnataka: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has searched about 18 locations associated with PWD Minister Satish Jarkiholi, including his Bengaluru residence in Dollars Colony, government accommodation and properties in Belagavi and Gokak. The searches come weeks after the agency raided properties belonging to Excise Joint Commissioner Y Manjunath, Jarkiholi’s brother-in-law. The latest action is part of a probe into suspected irregularities in the granting of bar licences and other related matters.

The ED operation extended beyond properties directly associated with Jarkiholi, with officials also visiting premises connected to his daughter and Chikkodi MP Priyanka Jarkiholi, besides other locations linked to the family. The searches, which commenced early Wednesday, also covered certain places in Maharashtra, sources said.

The searches are believed to form part of the ED’s investigation into alleged corruption within the Karnataka Excise Department. The probe covers suspected irregularities in the granting of 18 bar licences as well as the alleged flow of illicit money. The agency is also looking into allegations that Jarkiholi may have leveraged his position to facilitate the issuance of the licences. Investigators are examining whether money allegedly generated through the irregularities was later moved or invested outside India.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister DK Shivakumar hit out at the BJP-led Union government, alleging that the Enforcement Directorate was being used as a political tool to target the Congress administration and its leaders in Karnataka.
