Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary, is set to lead the Congress’s election efforts in Uttar Pradesh’s Rae Bareli and Amethi districts, commencing her campaign from Monday to secure victory in these longstanding Nehru-Gandhi family strongholds.
After much anticipation, the Congress announced that Rahul Gandhi will contest from Rae Bareli, currently held by Sonia Gandhi for two decades, while Kishori Lal Sharma, a trusted aide of the Gandhi family, will vie for Amethi.
Priyanka Gandhi will be stationed in Rae Bareli and Amethi until the conclusion of the polls, intensively campaigning for the success of Rahul and Sharma, according to Congress insiders. Both constituencies are scheduled for voting in the fifth phase on May 20. While Rahul is engaged in nationwide campaigning, Priyanka has assumed responsibility for Amethi and Rae Bareli.
In the 2019 elections, Sonia retained her Rae Bareli seat, the lone Congress victory in UP. Priyanka plans to conduct numerous “nukkad sabhas,” meetings, and door-to-door campaigns, managing activities from booth management to digital and social media outreach, and covering approximately 250 to 300 villages with equal attention to both constituencies.
She will be based at a guest house in Rae Bareli, while Rahul is scheduled to address rallies in Madhya Pradesh on Monday.
