New York: U.S. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth has said that American forces deployed in West Asia are prepared to resume combat operations if Iran does not agree to a peace deal. Speaking at a Pentagon briefing on Thursday, he warned that military readiness has been maintained amid rising tensions with Tehran.
Hegseth urged Iran to choose a diplomatic path, saying it could secure a “prosperous future” through agreement with the United States. He added that Washington hopes Iran will take that option “for the people of Iran.”
However, he cautioned that if Iran rejects a deal, it could face severe consequences, including military strikes on infrastructure, power, and energy facilities. The remarks come as tensions between Washington and Tehran remain high over regional security and nuclear-related concerns.
Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts are still underway, with indirect peace talks reportedly continuing through international mediators, though no breakthrough has yet been reached.
