CPM Announces Candidates for Kerala Assembly Polls

The CPM has announced its candidates for the 2026 Kerala Assembly elections soon after the Election Commission declared the poll schedule for the state.

Polling in Kerala will be held on April 9, while the results will be announced on May 4. The Left Democratic Front (LDF) is aiming to win a third consecutive term in power.

The CPM will contest 86 seats in the Assembly elections. Of the candidates announced, 56 sitting MLAs have been given tickets again.

State secretary M. V. Govindan said CPM candidates will contest in 75 constituencies, while six others will enter the fray as CPM-supported independent candidates.

The party also said candidates for five constituencies – Koduvally, Kottakkal, Kondotty, Tirur and Palakkad – will be announced later.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will once again contest from Dharmadam. Several ministers have also been fielded, including V. Sivankutty, M. B. Rajesh, Veena George, V. N. Vasavan, P. Rajeev, R. Bindu, K. N. Balagopal, P. A. Mohammed Riyas, O. R. Kelu, V. Abdurahiman and Saji Cherian.

Senior leaders K. K. Shailaja, T. P. Ramakrishnan and C. Raveendranath are also among the candidates. Shailaja will contest from Peravoor, Ramakrishnan from Perambra and Raveendranath from Manalur.
