New Delhi: On February 13, farmers are gearing up to march towards Delhi under the unified banners of the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha and the Samyukta Kisan Morcha, with backing from over 200 agricultural unions. Their paramount goal is to exert pressure on the Central government to address their demands, notably including the enactment of legislation ensuring a minimum support price (MSP) for crops. These farmers, predominantly hailing from Punjab and Haryana, are poised to embark on their journey towards Delhi on Monday ahead of the planned demonstration.
In anticipation of this mobilization, rigorous security measures and prohibitory actions have been implemented in the nation’s capital and along the borders between Haryana and Punjab, as well as Delhi and Haryana. Additionally, in compliance with Section 144 of the CrPC, the Haryana government has issued orders prohibiting gatherings of five or more individuals.
Shiv Kumar Kakka, the leader of SKM-NP and a former member of the RSS, was detained by the law enforcement authorities in Madhya Pradesh on Sunday. Farmer leaders expressed their dissatisfaction with his arrest, contemplating the possibility of boycotting the upcoming second round of talks with Union Ministers scheduled for Monday, despite his subsequent release after approximately three hours.
