Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday shared the joyful news of the recent birth of a female giraffe calf at the State Zoo-cum-Botanical Garden.
He invited online users to propose a name for the newborn giraffe, posting on X, “Happy to share that the Assam State Zoo has been blessed with a cute baby Giraffe just three days ago. Any suggestions for naming the newborn?” Sarma accompanied the announcement with two photos of the giraffe calf.
Several suggestions for the giraffe calf’s name emerged from netizens. One user recommended Maloti, another proposed Apoorva, and a different suggestion was the name Himanta. Despite her African heritage, the calf is recognized as Assamese by birth.
