Trinamool Congress (TMC), which is the ruling party in West Bengal, has announced all 42 candidates from the state who will contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. One surprising candidate they have chosen is Yusuf Pathan, a former Indian cricketer.
He will be contesting from the Berhampore constituency, which has been held by Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury from the Congress party since 1999. It’s likely that Chowdhury will contest from the same constituency again.
West Bengal has the third-highest number of seats, with 42 representatives in the Lok Sabha, after Uttar Pradesh with 80 seats and Maharashtra with 48 seats.
After the party announced his name, Pathan thanked TMC chief Mamata Banerjee for giving him a chance to contest in the election. “I’m eternally grateful to Smt. @mamataofficial for welcoming me into the TMC family and trusting me with the responsibility to be the people’s voice in the Parliament,” he said.
