New Delhi: The farmers’ protest came to a halt for two days following a violent turn during their march on Wednesday. Tragically, one protester sustained a severe head injury and succumbed to it.

The Chief Minister of Punjab, Bhagwant Mann, promised a thorough investigation into the death of a 24-year-old farmer named Shubh Karan Singh from Bhatinda, who was killed during a clash with the Haryana Police at the Khanauri border.

Mann assured that his government will support the farmers and won’t back down, even if there are threats of imposing President’s Rule in Punjab.

After the death of the protester, the leaders of the protest decided to pause the ‘Delhi Chalo’ march for two days to plan their next steps.

During the protest, there was violence at the Shambhu and Khanauri border, resulting in injuries to both farmers and police officers. The farmers had been camping at the Punjab borders after facing opposition from the Haryana Police.

The Haryana Police used tear gas shells when the farmers announced their intention to break through the barricades set up by the police.

According to the police, the farmers threw stones, resulting in injuries to several police officers.

The deceased farmer, Shubh Karan Singh, from Bathinda, succumbed to a severe head injury. However,  The Haryana Police denied any confirmation of the protester’s death or use of gunfire, stating they only used tear gas.

The violence sparked tensions between Punjab and Haryana, with Bhagwant Mann questioning why Haryana police were intervening in Punjab’s territory.

Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher announced that the next steps for the protest would be decided on Friday evening, and until then, the march would be halted.
