Chhattisgarh: Two members of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) stationed for election duties in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district sustained injuries following the explosion of an Under Barrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL) shell.
The event transpired in Galgam village within the jurisdiction of the Usoor police station as a security team conducted an area domination operation on Friday.
According to reports, the explosion took place approximately 500 meters away from a polling station, resulting in injuries to two security personnel.
Bijapur district is located within the Bastar Lok Sabha constituency, which is affected by Maoist insurgency. The constituency is currently undergoing voting in the initial phase of the general elections.
Due to the presence of Maoists and inadequate road infrastructure, coupled with safety concerns, the polling teams were transported by the Indian Air Force (IAF) via air-drop to their designated locations.
In operations against Maoist insurgents this year, a total of 79 have been reported deceased, with 29 fatalities occurring in a single confrontation in Kanker on April 16th.
