Delhi: Disruptions in global energy supplies following the conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran, along with tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, have led to a shortage of LPG in India, affecting the hospitality sector.

Restaurants in several major cities across India reported that supplies of commercial LPG cylinders have been disrupted since Sunday, forcing some establishments to temporarily shut down operations.

Amid concerns over supply and to prevent hoarding, the Government of India has increased the minimum waiting period for booking a domestic LPG refill from 21 days to 25 days. This means consumers can book their next cylinder only after 25 days from the date of the previous booking.

Meanwhile, government sources said there is no need for panic, as authorities are taking steps to ensure the country’s oil and energy requirements are met. Officials said efforts are underway to diversify import sources to maintain adequate supplies.

India earlier sourced oil and energy resources from about 27 countries, but the government has now expanded its import network to nearly 40 countries.
