Kerala: Buoyed by their victory in the Lok Sabha elections, the Congress party in Kerala has crafted a comprehensive strategy to secure a win in the upcoming local body elections in 2025. As part of this strategy, senior Congress leaders have been tasked with the responsibility of winning corporations in the state. The plan was formulated during a two-day camp conducted by the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) in Wayanad, which concluded on Wednesday.

KPCC President K. Sudhakaran, Opposition Leader V. D. Satheesan, and Congress Working Committee Member Ramesh Chennithala will oversee the election efforts in the six corporations of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kochi, Thrissur, Kozhikode, and Kannur.

Sudhakaran will ensure that the United Democratic Front (UDF) retains control of Kannur Corporation in 2025. Satheesan has been assigned the responsibility of bringing the UDF to power in Kochi, while Chennithala will manage the campaign in Kozhikode. AICC Secretary Roji M. John is in charge of Thrissur Corporation, former Minister V. S. Sivakumar will oversee Thiruvananthapuram, and P. C. Vishnunadh MLA will manage Kollam.

The Congress leadership has divided the 14 districts of Kerala into three zones. Kodikkunnil Suresh MP will lead the election activities in the Thiruvananthapuram zone, T. N. Prathapan will handle the Ernakulam zone, and T. Siddique MLA will be responsible for the northern zone of Kozhikode.

Here are the leaders assigned to each district:
– Thiruvananthapuram: Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan MLA
– Kollam: Adoor Prakash MP
– Pathanamthitta: Shanimol Usman
– Alappuzha: K. C. Joseph
– Kottayam: Benny Behanan MP
– Idukki: Joseph Vazhakkan
– Ernakulam: Anto Antony
– Thrissur: A. P. Anilkumar
– Palakkad: T. N. Prathapan
– Malappuram: M. K. Raghavan MP
– Kozhikode: Rajmohan Unnithan
– Wayanad: Sunny Joseph MLA
– Kannur: T. Siddique MLA
– Kasaragod: Shafi Parambil MP

However, before the local body elections, by-elections for assembly seats, including the Palakkad assembly seat, will be held. Palakkad is a BJP stronghold. In the 2021 assembly election, Congress leader Shafi Parambil won from the constituency. In the 2024 parliamentary election, Shafi contested from the Vadakara constituency and won, creating an opportunity for the BJP to capture the Palakkad seat in the by-election. Notably, Metroman E. Sreedharan contested for the BJP in the 2021 assembly election.
