The Kolkata Police’s Special Enquiry Team (SET) has called in four Raj Bhavan staff members regarding allegations of sexual harassment against West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose.

The accusations made by a female contractual employee triggered the establishment of the SET, which has been entrusted with conducting a thorough investigation.

Under the leadership of DC (Central) Indira Mukherjee, the SET initiated its inquiry on Friday and plans to interview witnesses in the coming days. Furthermore, the team has formally requested CCTV footage from Raj Bhavan.

The contractual employee filed a formal complaint with the Kolkata Police, alleging instances of sexual harassment by the Bengal Governor within the premises of Raj Bhavan.

Despite the severity of the allegations, legal recourse against the Governor is constrained by Constitutional immunity.

In response, the Bengal Governor, vehemently denying the allegations, has prohibited police access to Raj Bhavan, citing concerns of unauthorized and politically motivated investigations during the election period.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee condemned Bose’s alleged misconduct towards the female employee, underscoring the distress and fear experienced by the employee while working at Raj Bhavan. Banerjee criticized the Governor’s conduct, questioning his commitment to upholding the dignity of women.
