Chennai: The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M. K. Stalin’s son, Udhayanidhi Stalin, might be elevated to the position of Deputy Chief Minister of the state. Currently, Udhayanidhi is the Minister of Youth Welfare and Sports Development in the state. It is reported that he will assume the position before August 22. After the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, M. K. Stalin took charge as Deputy Chief Minister. His son is now preparing to follow the same path.
It was Udhayanidhi himself who pushed for the promotion. The aim is to increase the acceptability of the government among the people and to assist Stalin in governance. Party sources say that the promotion is certain and will happen before Chief Minister Stalin leaves for the US on August 22. The legislative assembly elections in Tamil Nadu are scheduled for 2026.
Meanwhile, decisions regarding the cabinet reshuffle have not yet been finalized, and the performance of several ministers will be considered, said a senior DMK leader. In January, rumors about Udhayanidhi’s promotion had risen, but Stalin had denied all of them.
