New Delhi: The Supreme Court is expected to consider a plea regarding the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the Enforcement Directorate in the liquor policy case today (Friday). The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has stated that Kejriwal will continue to serve as the Chief Minister of Delhi and fulfill his duties even while in jail. Meanwhile, the BJP has demanded Kejriwal’s resignation and has approached the governor.
Arvind Kejriwal, the Aam Aadmi Party convener and a prominent opposition leader, was arrested from his residence at 9 pm on Thursday in connection with the Delhi liquor case, just days before the Lok Sabha elections. Following interrogation, the arrest was officially documented.
This action was taken after the Delhi High Court declined to intervene in Kejriwal’s petition seeking protection from arrest. Kejriwal also failed to appear for the ninth summons for questioning on Thursday.
He filed a plea against the arrest with the Supreme Court during the night, but it was not immediately considered. Subsequently, the court announced that the case would be heard on Friday morning. The Enforcement Directorate requested custody of Kejriwal during the proceedings. Kejriwal is the first Chief Minister in the country to be arrested while in office.
