The political party led by Imran Khan, known as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) demanded that the Pakistan election commission release the final results of the general elections by midnight on Saturday. They threatened to protest in areas where results were still pending if this wasn’t done. The PTI also stated their intention to form the government both nationally and in the Punjab province.Zulfi Bukhari, a trusted associate of Imran Khan and advisor on media, interacted with the news agency Reuters.
As of now, no clear winner has emerged, despite nearing the end of the vote-counting process. Both Imran Khan and Nawaz Sharif of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have claimed victory. However, since neither party has secured a majority, Pakistan is facing a divided mandate.
In Pakistan, there are 265 seats in the national assembly, and a political party needs at least 133 seats to have a majority. The voting ended at 5 pm last Thursday, even amid increasing militant attacks and claims of election wrongdoing. After the voting, the new parliament will choose a prime minister. If no single party wins enough seats to have a majority, the party with the most seats can team up with others to form a coalition government.
