The Opposition Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched strong criticisms against Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday regarding the inquiry into his daughter Veena’s defunct IT company. They demanded his resignation amidst allegations that the company received monetary benefits in exchange for favors from the Chief Minister.
In defense of Pinarayi Vijayan, the CPI(M) contended that the case was driven by political motivations. M V Govindan, CPI(M) state secretary, asserted that they would address the matter both politically and legally.
The United Democratic Front (UDF) initiated proceedings in the state assembly, submitting an adjournment motion to deliberate on the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO)’s examination of Pinarayi Vijayan’s daughter’s company, Exalogic Solutions Private Limited.
Leader of Opposition V D Satheesan, addressing the media after boycotting the assembly, accused the Chief Minister of evading discussion, stating, “The Serious Fraud Investigation Office has initiated the investigation. The opposition filed a notice for an adjournment motion in the assembly. Nevertheless, Pinarayi Vijayan left the house, fearing discussions on the matter. It was the ruling front that caused a disturbance in the assembly today.” Satheesan insisted on Vijayan’s resignation in light of the allegations.
BJP State President K Surendran has also called for Vijayan’s resignation, claiming that Veena’s company received money following the state government’s favoritism towards the black sand mining firm Cochin Minerals and Rutile Ltd (CMRL). The allegation suggests that Veena received Rs 1.72 crore from CMRL.
CPI(M) state secretary, addressing the media, asserted that political motives underlay the allegations against the Chief Minister. “This case appears to be politically motivated, as Shaun George, spearheading legal actions against the chief minister, has been rewarded with a significant position within the BJP. It is evident that the BJP is orchestrating this case,” Govindan said. He assured that they would address the allegations both politically and legally.
