Mohamed Muizzu, formerly an engineer and now a politician, officially assumed the role of the eighth President of the Maldives in a ceremony held at Republic Square. The swearing-in took place during a Special Assembly of the People’s Majlis, with Chief Justice Muthasim Adnan administering the oath of office.
India’s Union Minister Kiren Rijiju and various foreign dignitaries attended the event. The 45-year-old Muizzu, accompanied by his spouse Saajidha Mohamed, pledged to serve in this new capacity.
Additionally, Hussain Mohamed Latheef took the oath as the 10th Vice President of the Maldives during the same ceremony. Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and other prominent figures were also present, along with 1,000 members of the general public.
