Jharkhand: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren was apprehended by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) shortly after he tendered his resignation to the Governor at Raj Bhavan in Ranchi. The arrest was linked to an ongoing ED investigation into an alleged illicit alteration of land ownership in Jharkhand, implicating a criminal network. The development occurred on Wednesday evening, following an extensive seven-hour interrogation by the ED in connection to an alleged land scam.
Sources have reported that the investigative agency will present all the evidence it has gathered against Soren during the court proceedings on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Jharkhand minister and the chosen Chief Minister nominee of the ruling coalition, Champai Soren, has approached the Governor to establish a new government, asserting the support of 43 MLAs. “I have the backing of 43 MLAs, who have elected me as their leader,” said Champai Soren.
Hemant Soren Files FIR Against ED Officials Over Delhi Raids in Money Laundering Probe
Hemant Soren, the Chief Minister of Jharkhand, took legal action on Wednesday by filing an FIR against Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials who conducted raids at his Delhi residence regarding a money laundering case. The FIR, registered at the SC/ST police station in Ranchi just before his questioning, emphasizes the alleged mental and emotional distress inflicted upon him and his family by the ED’s actions.
The police department confirmed the lodging of the FIR against certain senior ED officials. The ED team spent nearly 13 hours searching Soren’s Delhi residence on Monday in connection with a money laundering investigation. During the operation, the agency reportedly seized a total of Rs 36 lakh, an SUV, and what they deemed as “incriminating” documents.
Presently undergoing questioning at his Ranchi residence, Soren contested ownership of the seized BMW car, denying any connection to it. He also refuted allegations of possessing illicit cash, asserting that the ED officials intentionally aimed to publicly humiliate him through their actions.
