Visakhapatnam: India concluded the opening day of the second Test against England at the Dr. Y S Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA International Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam, reaching a total of 336 while losing six wickets. The team posted a respectable score on the first day, primarily propelled by the outstanding century from opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal, who remains at the crease with a score of 179 from 257 balls. Jaiswal’s innings included 17 fours and five impressive sixes.
The focus for the upcoming second day will be on Jaiswal as cricket enthusiasts await to see if he can hit a double century.
However, apart from Jaiswal, other Indian batsmen struggled to provide substantial support. The second-highest run-scorer, Shubman Gill, managed to contribute only 34 runs.
On the bowling front for England, Shoaib Bashir and Rehan Ahmed both secured two wickets each, with economies of 3.57 and 3.81, respectively. James Anderson bowled 17 overs with an economy of 1.76. Both Anderson and Tom Hartley claimed one wicket each. Joe Root, despite bowling 14 overs, was unable to secure a wicket.
Following an unexpected defeat in the first Test, India aims to level the series by securing victory in this second Test. The performance on the second day will be crucial in determining the team’s success in achieving this objective.
