On October 7, Hamas militants launched a severe attack on Israel from the Gaza Strip, resulting in 1,200 casualties and around 240 hostages. In retaliation, the Israeli military carried out air strikes and a ground offensive, leading to over 14,800 reported deaths in Gaza, according to the Hamas’ government. The conflict has persisted for nearly two months, with over 15,000 Palestinians reportedly killed.
The United Nations agency dedicated to Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, stated that 1.8 million individuals in Gaza have experienced displacement, with 1.1 million finding refuge in facilities provided by the United Nations. Israel closed border crossings, obstructing essential supplies such as water, food, fuel, and medicine. Fuel deliveries were halted until late November, citing concerns about potential military use by Hamas.
The supply cutoff has left hospitals, water facilities, sanitation services, and bakeries incapacitated. Major UN agencies condemned this action as an ‘outrage’ and called for a permanent ceasefire on humanitarian grounds.
Despite international appeals, Israel’s offensive against Hamas persists, disregarding the well-being of innocent lives in Palestine. Israel must promptly halt its military actions in Gaza.
