Indonesian President Joko Widodo urged his U.S. counterpart, Joe Biden, to take more decisive action in ending the “atrocities” in Gaza and facilitating a ceasefire during their talks on Monday.
Widodo had recently participated in a summit of Arab and Muslim leaders in Riyadh that condemned Israel and called for an immediate ceasefire. As the leader of the world’s most populous Muslim country, Indonesia has witnessed substantial protests in solidarity with Palestinians and a boycott of businesses perceived to be associated with Israel.
In the Oval Office meeting with Biden, Widodo appealed to the U.S. to intensify efforts in halting the atrocities in Gaza, emphasizing the urgent need for a ceasefire in the interest of humanity.
