Inditex, the world’s largest clothing retailer and owner of Zara, has taken a significant step towards sustainable fashion. Reports indicate that the company has agreed to procure recycled polyester from the U.S. start-up, Ambercycle. In a substantial commitment, Inditex plans to invest 70 million euros ($74.19 million) in purchasing Ambercycle’s recycled polyester, which is crafted from textile waste. This move comes as fast-fashion brands are increasingly under pressure to adopt eco-friendly practices and reduce waste.
Inditex’s investment will extend over a three-year period, during which the company will acquire a significant portion of Ambercycle’s recycled polyester production, marketed under the brand name “cycora”.
Furthermore, this strategic partnership will play a pivotal role in Ambercycle’s ambition to establish its inaugural large-scale textile recycling facility in Los Angeles. Anticipated to commence operations around 2025, this facility will pave the way for the incorporation of cycora material into Inditex products over the subsequent three years.
Inditex’s move to support innovative recycling solutions like Ambercycle marks a significant stride towards a more sustainable future for the fashion industry.
