Given the escalating conflict between Israel and Hamas, India has launched a mission named Operation Ajay to evacuate its citizens from Israel. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar announced on Wednesday that special chartered flights are being arranged for this operation.
Jaishankar made the announcement through X (formerly Twitter), stating that special charter flights would transport Indian citizens in Israel back to India if they wish to return.
He also emphasized India’s commitment to the safety and well-being of its citizens abroad.
The External Affairs Ministry reports that approximately 18,000 Indians are currently residing in Israel.
The first batch of Indians is expected to be repatriated from Israel via a special flight on Thursday. The Indian embassy in Israel has already emailed the first group of registered Indian citizens for this special flight. Notifications for subsequent flights will be sent to other registered individuals.
Furthermore, in Delhi, a 24/7 control center has been established, along with separate emergency hotlines in Tel Aviv and Ramallah. These measures are put in place to closely monitor the situation in the conflict-affected areas and provide guidance and support to Indian citizens.
