Rajkot: India achieved a remarkable victory over England in the third test held at Rajkot. The victory margin was an impressive 434 runs, propelling India to a 2-1 lead in the five-match series. Ravindra Jadeja’s exceptional performance, taking seven wickets and scoring a century, earned him the prestigious Man of the Match award.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, India’s opening batsman, continued his splendid form by registering yet another double century in the series. Despite briefly leaving the field on the third day due to back spasms after reaching 104 runs, Jaiswal returned to notch up 200 runs with a single off Joe Root in the second session, marking his second consecutive double century in the series. His innings comprised 14 fours and 12 sixes, totaling 214 runs.
England’s second innings collapsed for just 122 runs, with Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav contributing significantly with five and two wickets respectively.
Following a significant defeat, England captain Ben Stokes expressed the team’s determination to bounce back in the remaining two Tests, scheduled at Ranchi and Dharamshala, aiming to secure the series with a 3-2 scoreline.
Sarfaraz Khan, displaying his batting talent, impressed spectators during the third test match. In the first innings, he scored a brisk half-century in just 48 balls and continued his form to reach 62 runs off 66 deliveries, including 9 boundaries and 2 sixes. Despite being on track for a century, he was unfortunately run out due to a mix-up with Ravindra Jadeja.
In the second innings, Sarfaraz remained unbeaten with 68 runs from 72 balls, featuring 6 fours and 3 sixes, contributing significantly to India’s formidable target of 557 runs.
Earlier in the match, Indian captain Rohit Sharma displayed his batting prowess by scoring a crucial half-century, rescuing India from an early collapse. Combining with Ravindra Jadeja, Sharma forged a resilient 77-run partnership after India lost three wickets for just 33 runs.
Additionally, offspinner R Ashwin rejoined the Indian squad in Rajkot on the fourth day after missing the third day’s play due to personal reasons. He also managed to take the wicket of Tom Hartley on the same day, further bolstering India’s performance.
