Mumbai: Sharad Pawar faced a setback on Tuesday as Ajit Pawar’s faction within the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) received formal recognition from the Election Commission. Utilizing the “test of legislative majority,” the Election Commission granted Ajit Pawar’s group the NCP symbol amidst internal electoral disputes.

The Election Commission order stated that the group led by Ajit Anantrao Pawar is officially recognized as the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). They are allowed to use the party’s name and its symbol, which is a clock, according to the rules of the Election Symbols Order from 1968.

After more than ten hearings spanning six months, the poll panel ruled in favor of Ajit Pawar’s faction on the NCP issue.

During the proceedings that commenced on July 1 of the previous year between the two string factions led by Sharad and Ajit Pawar, robust legal teams from both sides were present.

After the Election Commission’s declaration that the Ajit Pawar faction was the “real” NCP, Jitendra Ahwad, the leader of Sharad Pawar’s faction of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), attacked the commission, saying that it “should be embarrassed” and that Ajit Pawar had “politically choked” his uncle Sharad Pawar.
