On Monday, the Delhi High Court requested the Centre’s reply to a public interest litigation addressing the unregulated utilization of deepfakes and artificial intelligence.
Deepfakes involve the creation of images or videos through AI-powered deep learning software, depicting individuals saying or doing things they never did. The bench led by Acting Chief Justice Manmohan noted that controlling technology is challenging, and the concerns raised by the petitioner necessitate government consideration.
The bench, also including Justice Mini Pushkarna, emphasized the intricate nature of the technology. The central government’s representative mentioned that the government is already investigating the matter, requesting time to gather instructions.
Actor Rashmika Mandanna recently fell victim to a deepfake video where her face was digitally placed on someone else’s body.
