The Delhi High Court has instructed news portal “The Wire” to promptly remove an article accused of defaming Delhi chief secretary Naresh Kumar’s son, Karan Chauhan.
The court, responding to Kumar’s plea against the article titled “Links of Son of Delhi Chief Secretary to Beneficiary’s Family in Land Over-Valuation Case Raise Questions,” emphasized the potential significant harm to Kumar’s reputation.
Justice Sachin Datta, acknowledging the importance of freedom of speech, underscored that unfounded defamatory allegations, as seen in the article, should not compromise an individual’s longstanding reputation.
The court has mandated the removal of the article within 48 hours and prohibited the defendants from sharing similar defamatory content.
