Kochi: With the Kerala Assembly elections approaching, the Congress has come forward with allegations of CPM–BJP deals in the state.

AICC General Secretary K. C. Venugopal on Saturday alleged that the CPM and the BJP had entered into a secret deal in Palakkad.

Leaders of the United Democratic Front (UDF) in the state claimed that the CPM had fielded a weak candidate in Palakkad to benefit the BJP.

N. M. R. Razak, owner of the NMR Group of Restaurants, is contesting as an LDF-backed Independent in Palakkad.

He is pitted against Congress candidate Ramesh Pisharody and BJP candidate Sobha Surendran.

UDF leaders also alleged that Twenty20, a new entrant in the NDA, fielded weak candidates in Ernakulam as a return favour to the CPM.

Meanwhile, both the CPM and the BJP denied the allegations.

The CPM hit back by alleging Congress-BJP deals in the state, while the BJP countered by accusing the CPM and Congress of having deals in this election.

However, political analysts observed that the Congress raised the CPM-BJP deals allegation to consolidate minority votes in the state in its favour.
