In a thrilling match in Kolkata, Australia booked a spot in the World Cup final with a narrow three-wicket triumph against South Africa. After limiting South Africa to 212 runs, Pat Cummins’ team had a strong beginning, propelled by Travis Head’s swift 62.
However, facing a resurgence from the Proteas’ spinners, Australia found themselves at 137-5. Despite losing their seventh wicket with 20 runs still required, Cummins and Mitchell Starc maintained composure, ultimately securing a victory with 16 balls to spare.
South Africa’s innings began on a challenging note, reduced to 24-4 by the outstanding performances of Josh Hazlewood and Starc with the new ball. While David Miller’s determined innings, scoring 101 from 116 balls, revitalized the Proteas’ position, it fell short of securing the win. Despite a commendable effort in the field, Australia advances to face India in Sunday’s final in Ahmedabad.
