Australia has accused China’s navy of engaging in “unsafe and unprofessional” actions by emitting sonar pulses in an incident that occurred in international waters near Japan.
The encounter resulted in injuries to Australian divers who were clearing fishing nets from a frigate’s propellers.
The Australian Defence Minister, Richard Marles, expressed serious concern about the use of sonar pulses, describing it as a risk to the safety of the divers.
The minister emphasized the expectation that all countries, including China, should operate their militaries in a professional and safe manner.
